Start with our super informative Clem & Clementine PDF Brochure!
- FRAME: All butted CrMo, most tubes “SILVER” brand, which is ours.
- FORK: Identical to HunqaFork. Same wide crown, same 1.2mm x 0.9mm blade spec. Passes Mtn EN.
- HEADSET: Tange cheap good unsealed sawtooth, knurled top cup style that adjusts with one tool only.
- HANDLEBAR/STEM: Nitto Bosco
- SEAT POST: Kalloy 248, same as our other Taiwan bikes use...250mm x 29.8mm. Passes Mtn EN.
- SADDLE: We’re still picking the models from VELO. No substitutions or buy backs. They’ll be good!
- GRIPS: Buy ‘em separately. We’ll have good options for as little as $8, from USA and Holland.
- SHIFTERS: SunRace thumbies. They click but aren’t indexed. Go figga... but they’re re- ally good. Metal.
- BRAKE LEVER: Tektro, for V-brakes.
- BRAKES: Tektro long-arm V, to clear the brake hole better than the one shown in this brochure does.
- HOUSING: It’s gray.
- FRONT DER: Shimano Claris.
- REAR DER: Shimano Altus, with 13/15t pul- leys. Supa coo!
- CRANK: Most likely a SILVER (our own), but if that ends up too pricey, then a stock model by the maker of SILVER cranks, and other fa- mous cranks, but it’s not our place to reveal which ones. We’re shooting for the SILVER crank, though. Don’t call to “make sure.” We’ll do what we can, but the crank should not be the dealbreaker, in either case.
- CHAINRINGS: Steel. 38/24, chainguard.
- BB: Tange 110mm, with +1mm thicker axle, thick grease. Passes Mtn EN.
- PEDALS: VP 538. Nylon grippy platform with slick CrMo axle & sealed bearings. Color un- determined. Might be boring, might be garish. In either case, you cover them with your feet!
- WHEELS: Taiwanese q/r hubs made by Tai- wan’s top maker, but NOT its top model. Good enough. Laced with butted SS spokes and brass nipples to Alex (brand) rims. We’re still deciding on the rims, but for the love of god, if you trust us this far, please trust us to pick out a good one. The best one, suitable for wide tires, and with braking surfaces that’ll hold up well. We’re picky about rims. Either the DM18 or DM24. With 36H front and rear.
- TIRES: A Kenda (brand) fatty with a tread that works decently on road and dirt, and has an extra measure of thorn resistance. With Presta tube.
- CHAIN: KMC, probably not black. CASSETTE: SunRace 8sp 11x34.
- it’s possible that we omitted one thing, maybe two. CLEMs come with the required reflectors. We even included a spoke protector (“pie plate” to snobs). because they’re cool and useful and it’s a CLEM, for goodness’ sake.
- WEIGHT: We haven’t weighed one, but it’s not a concern. Durable reliable worry-free wheels weigh more. So does a strong frame that will still be in use decades from now. CLEMs’re towny bikes and traily bikes..and toury bikes, and weight smartly allowed makes the bike better.

What’s “Mtn EN”?
It is an irrationally tough test for bicycles & parts that assumes you weigh more than you do and ride a bike in a dangerously dumb way for more years than you’re likely to live. Many fantastic bikes and parts, to- tally suitable for wilderness travel don’t pass Mtn EN tests (probably pass Cross Bike EN and Road Bike EN). But fwiw, Mtn EN parts have an extra margin of toughness.
